The EU sees the ICT sector as a key part of the Lisbon strategy. The “i2020” strategy creates the framework for EU intervention and its objectives in supporting ICT development in various application fields (health, transport, citizen’s services, electronic payment, etc.) This is achieved through financing programmes (7th Framework Programme for Research and Development, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme).

The EU is also involved in regulating through improved data protection, secure payments, and through active normalisation and standardisation policies.

European competitiveness clusters, in particular, need professional technical assistance in Brussels to clearly identify programmes and projects and to carry out partner searches, proposal preparation, information dissemination and project management.
