Since the early 2000’s, the European Commission has pursued its goal of implementing a European Research Area facilitating increased mobility for researchers between Member States and coordination and optimisation of regional and national research programmes. In parallel, the Lisbon Strategy aims to make the economic environment more dynamic and to invest in people by intensifying research and innovation.
What’s more, through its “broad-based innovation strategy” the European Commission’s DG Enterprise and Industry is implementing a number of concrete measures such as the initiative on growth markets, support to world-class clusters, and the creation of a European institute for innovation and technology.
Implementation of these European strategies creates many European programmes and financing opportunities for companies, laboratories, and local public authorities. As a result, the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development (FPRD) and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) support and finance companies developing innovative projects across the EU.
